Troop 90 Bike Trek
When: June 23rd-June 25th
Where: Beginning in Sheffield Il and concluding at Brook Park School.
Cost: TBD; estimated cost $60-$95
Eligibility: High School age Scouts: some long-distance cycling experience is strongly recommended.
We will be departing early Friday morning for the Hennepin Canal Trailhead in Sheffield Illinois and literally riding home. The trip consists of three days riding with two overnight camps; one at Starved Rock State Park and the second night at McKinley Woods County Park near Channahon. We will be riding bike trails for 90% of the trip along the Hennepin Trail, I&M Canal Trail and the Centennial trail.
Each day consists of a 40-45-mile bike ride along scenic river and canal trails, we will stop in towns along the way for rest and to refuel ourselves. The ride will be fully supported by the Troop trailer and a SAG wagon. We will meet the support vehicle at the designated overnight site, camping in troop tents and preparing our own meals during the trip. Gear will be transported in the trailer.
This would be an excellent opportunity to complete many of the requirements for the Cycling merit badge.
Once we have a viable crew we will meet to discuss menus, logistics and equipment needed. We will have two practice rides in the upcoming weeks to train and build stamina.
Adult participation, either riding or support, is welcomed and encouraged.
We will have a short informational meeting after May 10th's troop meeting.
Please contact Mr. Knasiak, Mr. Valadez or Mr. Smith for more info.
